Alicia Vikander Quotes

Quotes by and about Alicia Vikander

(Continued from her main entry on the site.)

Vikander: "I vividly remember watching women in films when I was nine or 10, picturing them being what I'd be like as an adult. I had these real female crushes on certain actresses. And I'd watch them thinking, one day I'll be that. One day I'll be a woman. ... I get that wish to find your complete form."

Vikander: "I push myself hard. I don't like pain, exactly, but as a ballerina I lived in constant pain. At ballet school in Stockholm, I remember we had a locker where if someone had been to the doctor and gotten painkillers, we divided them among us. In a sense we were all addicted. After I quit dancing, for a while it felt strange not to be in pain. It was as if an old friend, not a good friend but a presence, always tagging along, had left me."

Vikander: "I think I'm a big romantic deep down."

Vikander: "If you actually truly are able to sacrifice a lot of yourself for the person you love, that's pretty extraordinary."

Vikander: "[When I was younger, my world was] about perfection, and if you weren't perfect, it was like the world was falling apart. I experienced a lot of stress around that."

Vikander: "I've been terrified to begin each one of [my projects] because they're so new to me."

Vikander: "The only thing that I think is quite tough sometimes [about being an actor] is the personal aspect of family and friends and people. You can't make any plans with them about anything, even though when they actually ask you, 'So what are you doing in three months?' You say, 'I don't know, but I don't know if I can make any plans.'"

Vogue Magazine: "She conveys what might be called an embarrassed glamour. Slight and deceptively low-wattage."

Vanessa Golembewski: "Missing from her demeanor are the boisterous, look-at-me mannerisms of some up-and-coming actors begging for attention."

Caroline Hjelt: "People assume that when you're famous you must be naturally extroverted. Alicia is not."

Derek Cianfrance: "Alicia has this ripe internal world, and when the camera points to her, you can see the tornadoes inside. It's spellbinding."

The Telegraph: "Every director that has ever spoken about Vikander seems to say that she has a discipline and focus that comes from training as a ballerina."

Alex Garland: "She has got that dancer's stoicism. She's pretty tough, Alicia, and it is not an affectation. Somewhere in her she is hard as nails."

Chloe Fox: "The word that seems to have followed Vikander ... is 'determined'. 'Part of me likes the word, part of me feels uncomfortable when I hear it,' she says. 'I feel very aware that I've had to be tough to get to where I am. I've been trying to do good work in a language that isn't my own. I guess that does make me determined, but it's in my nature to want to do the best that I can. It also makes me feel safe, in a funny way, if I'm working hard; less lonely, somehow.'"
